Accuracy and limitations
Every equation implemented here is taken from its original peer-reviewed publication and covered by an automated test suite that checks the arithmetic against published reference values. Sources are listed in full on the methodology page.
That verifies the calculation. It does not make the result clinically appropriate for any particular patient. All estimating equations on this site assume stable renal function and none is valid in acute kidney injury. Cockcroft-Gault typically overestimates measured creatinine clearance by roughly 10–30%, was derived from a small 1976 cohort, and is unreliable at extremes of muscle mass.
Where guidance on this site reflects practice convention rather than validated evidence — weight-basis selection rules, creatinine rounding in elderly patients, collection-adequacy bands — that is stated at the point of use.
Review status
The clinical review status of this content is stated openly on the methodology page and in the footer of every page. Where content has not yet been independently reviewed by a licensed clinician, the site says so rather than implying otherwise.
